Two Sustainability Resources You Can't Do Without
Full-time job positions that focus on sustainability have jumped 11 percent on campus in just two years, according to AASHE—an indication of just how rapidly the sustainability movement is growing on college campuses.
If you’re considering ramping up your sustainability effort, spend a little time perusing the websites of USGBC’s Center for Green Schools and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). These organizations exist to encourage sustainability efforts on college campuses by providing resources.
The Center for Green Schools is working to create green schools for everyone within this generation. It has an extensive website with information relevant to students, administrators, faculty, and facility managers. Sometimes it also collaborates with universities, helping them figure out what groups should be included in the institution’s sustainability effort.
The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) is a professional association that encourages higher education to be a leader in sustainability by providing resources, education, and a network of support through which best practices can be shared. STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System) is an AASHE-developed framework that enables colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. Prospective students and others can also use STARS to compare sustainability performance over time and across institutions.
